THE CECM FOR ENVIRONMENT, ROTICH KIPLANGAT, LEADS PREPARATIONS IN READINESS FOR THE 2024 WORLD WETLANDS DAY
The CECM for Environment, Water, Energy, Natural Resources and Climate Change, Rotich Kiplangat, has been steering planning meetings with various stakeholders in readiness for the commemoration of this year’s World Wetlands Day which will be held at Enaeenyenye Swamp in Shankoe Ward, Transmara West Subcounty.

World Wetlands Day is marked annually on the 2nd of February with an aim of bringing attention to the vital role that wetlands play not only for humanity but also for the planet. The theme for this year is: Wetlands and human wellbeing.
This theme underscores the interconnectedness between the quality of human life and the health of wetlands. The county government of Narok is committed to environmental protection and biodiversity conservation. This it has done through the numerous tree planting initiatives and biodiverity campaigns that it has conducted over the recent past, with the latest one being the afforestation and reforestation of the Enoosupukia forest in Narok East Subcounty that was held during the National Tree Planting day marked in November last year.
The county government of Narok has over the recent past, organized several tree planting initiatives including planting of trees along the scenic Talek river as a way of championing environmental conservation, preservation of natural heritage and sustainable living. Talek River is a vital tributary of the Mara river that forms part of the Mara ecosystem.
Last year, the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Forestry and Climate Change Soipan Tuya, joined the County government of Narok in marking the World wetlands day at Enkong Enkare in Maji Moto/ Naroosura Ward, Narok South Subcounty.
Also tasked with the responsibility of planning this year’s event are the Chief Officer Environment, Willy Loigero, Director Environment Liaram Molai together with various partners from Kenya Forest Service, National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), ILEPA among other stakeholders.
